2015 Spotswood Award

Robert Newton has dedicated the last 30 plus years of his life to helping those in need in the community. After retiring from C&P Telephone Company Robert helped to establish and maintain SECA (Spotsylvania Emergency Concerns Association Inc.) SECA is an all volunteer non-profit organization this program assists county residents in need to obtain some of life’s necessities like food and clothing. Robert has served as the thrift shop Director since its opening in 1986, and does everything for daily supervision of the store to collecting food from local businesses. Mr. Newton will also assist clients with his own personal finances.
Robert is also a lifelong member of the Tabernacle United Methodist Church where he has served in many different positions to include the Sunday school teacher and the board of trustees.
Since the inception of SECA Robert has been the driving force behind the operation. He has demonstrated his selflessness and his drive to help others in need. For these reasons and others Mr. Newton is a very deserving recipient of this prestigious award.
